It has been a blah couple of days, I have not been great on food, missed a meal here and there and have not been inspired to cook. But I did shop and got some good stuff I am going to cook tomorrow so I will have a lot more prepared and in the fridge and freezer ready to grab and heat. I am going to make a type of shepherd's pie using ground turkey, mushrooms and mashed potatoes. I will measure the weight of the meat then cook just enough potatoes so I can divide it evenly into meals. Should be easy enough to wrap portions to freeze. I am thinking of adding green beans as well.
I also cheated, not bad no fast food but I had some chocolate and a cookie. At least I did not binge, just nibbled a bit. But tomorrow is another day, so I won't dwell on it. That is deadly for me, thinking "oh well I blew it might as well pig out". Nope, not going to do it, just going to move forward tomorrow.
So I have finished three weeks on plan, I am pretty happy with the results.

Official weigh in - 4 lbs for the week, total of 15.5 lbs since I stared. Very happy with this result.

Day 18 - Dec 25 2011
It's Christmas! What a difficult day to eat healthy for many of us. I roasted a chicken on a bed of baby red potatoes which I took to my Mom's. It gave me an alternative to the ham she was making for my son and my dad. Ham is one of my favorite things, bu the sodium will have me retaining water and as with any addiction it is one thing I will just keep eating. So the chicken worked great. I did have a small scoop of mashed potatoes but I made them so I know they were not horrible to eat.
And now I am going to eat a cookie, not 2 cookies, not 5 cookies but one cookie, because it is Christmas and I have done well the last 2 weeks and it is okay. I can be great at justifying bad habits but I feel this is one that is not going to hurt me any. I am not going to gain 10 pounds from one cookie on Christmas. I know that having boundaries and making these decisions are just as important as choosing to exercise.
Tomorrow is official weigh in day, hoping to see a loss. I fit into my jeans this weekend which I have not done in months, that is such a good feeling.

Happy Christmas Eve to all of you! I fit into a pair of jeans today that I had not worn for a few months. That always feels good! Can't wait though for these to be too big...

Day 16 - Dec 23 2011
Well, my food today has been good and I get my water in as well. I am going to have to go back to my walking DVD for a few days though. I burned my hand making cookies (I know ironic) and can't do yoga for a few days at least. It is quite painful right now. But I resisted all cookies, I looked at one of the kiss cookies and thought for a split second "it is only one" but then immediately thought "nah, just not worth it".
So overall it has been an interesting day.

It is not too clear in the picture but right across the middle of the pad of my thumb, forefinger and middle finger are the burns. My thumb is the worst one. I got it under cold water right away and have been soaking in cool water on and off which is what you are supposed to do for burns. But it is painful and I won't be able to put my body weight on them until they heal.

Day 15 - Dec 22 2011
Did not do my yoga today, or any exercise. But I am not going to beat myself up. I am good on food and making the right choices, I will workout tomorrow.
Making cookies with my girl tonight, being careful not to lick my fingers. It is a challenge to do this, I was tempted to add peanut butter to everything so I would not want to eat any of the finished product. But I am feeling enough resolve right now to just resist. Plus we are going to giveaway and freeze most of the cookies so it they won't be around tempting me. I can't deprive the kids of a tradition like baking because I don't want cookies in the house.

Day 14 - Dec 22 2011
Officially 2 weeks! Feels good. I went to the movies tonight and saw The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I have been looking forward to this movie and used it as a reward for doing so well the last couple of weeks. But I was smart, went to a late show so it would not interfere with any of my meals and ate my last snack right before I went so I knew I would not be hungry. And though I was a bit envious of my daughter's popcorn I did not sample it at all. Actually did not want any when I thought about it.
So that was good! But I pulled something in my back moving a rock in the backyard, weird thing to have happen. The rock was heavier than it looked and my fault, I did not lift properly with my legs. I put some heat on it right away but we will see how I feel in the morning.

Good day today, did yoga with #BobHarper this morning, ate well, got out and was not tempted by all the goodies at my parents condo.

Day 12 - Dec 19 2011
Official Weigh in today - 1.5lb loss for the week, total 10.5lb loss since going on plan. I always like to do better, but I am not going to beat myself up over this, it is a loss I will take it.
Weird day, I was not in the mood to exercise and I didn't, but I will tomorrow. I had some cravings but I cut up the potatoes (4oz of baby red) into small pieces, baked in the microwave and then fried with about 1/2 tsp of butter. It really won't hurt my plan, the only thing I "splurged" on was the butter, and in that amount it is not going to affect me. What it did was give me a nice snack that filled that craving. There were also about 24 little pieces so it lasted longer than just baking the potatoes and eating them in a couple of bites.
Picked up some bananas to fill out my fruit for the next week or so, I like the little bit of variety and was getting tired of the pineapple. I also stuck to my list and did not pick up any extra items, that is a big challenge when you are having cravings and I was happy I did not cave.
So not a great day, but not a bad day.

Day 11 - Dec 18 2011
Today started well, I did my Biggest Loser Weightloss Yoga DVD with the always yummy Bob Harper. It was tough, very tough, and I was very happy when he said "this is the last move". I knew I could make it to the end that way. Now that I have gone all the way through I will know what to look for so I won't be so desperate for it to end. I pulled a small muscle in my back a bit, but I think it will be fine in another day or so.
I am a bit nervous about my weekly weigh in tomorrow, I always want to see a 2lb loss or more. For some reason, even with the exercise and good eating this week I am worried I won't have any weight loss. We will see!
I am feeling good enough that I think I am going to start doubling up the workouts. Doing the Yoga and Bootcamp in the morning (alternating days) and my walking at night. That seems to work well for me. Even the walking is getting easier, I have only been doing 2 of the 3 miles on the DVD. But last night I was surprised to feel I could have gone a bit longer. Maybe by the end of this week I will be up to the full 3 mile workout.
Made dinner for the kids and my dad tonight. Ate my salad and baked chicken while they had pasta with chicken sausage and garlic bread. Luckily, this is one meal I really don't miss out on. I have not been a big fan of red sauce since my second pregnancy (it was THE food that made me sick). So it was easy to make everything for them and to sit having a nice dinner together.
My dad cracks me up, he was complaining about how my mother does not keep any food in the house for him to eat, just her "sticks and twigs". He sounded just like the kids when they complain about me. Poor guy, I think he will be having the kids go out with him a bunch in the next few months.

Day 10 - Dec 17 2011
Day 10 - Double digit in the number of days, that is good. Next milestone is 2 weeks. It is always nice to be counting in weeks instead of days and then months instead of weeks. I feel like I am not losing weight, but that I look smaller in the mirror, weird, I know.
Food was good, got in all my water, even did my workout tonight (with help from the dogs). The only challenge was we went over to visit my parents and my dad wanted to go out to eat for lunch. This early in my plan it is just not a good idea to go out to eat. I need to control my food for right now. He was disappointed, as was my girl, but my mom understands. In a few months we will be able to go and have the occasional meal out together but right now I just can't do it.
So here are a couple pictures of the dogs keeping me company while I did my DVD tonight. The did not leave me a lot of space to move around!

Day 9 - Dec 16 2011
Day 9 - Food was pretty good today, I heated up too much couscous with lunch but could not eat it all so it was all good.
My knee was a bit sore today so I did not exercise hoping it will feel better tomorrow. Have to be careful with this old body sometimes.

Day 8 - Dec 15 2011
Day 8 - Did pretty well today. Got in my cardio tonight, I am starting to feel the difference when I am doing it which is good. Overall I just feel better, a lot more energy. Always amazes me that feeling so much better physically helps me feel better mentally and emotionally.
I put my foot down with the boy, when he wanted me to drop everything and feed him. I told him no, there is plenty of stuff he can prepare himself, I have cooked his dinner two nights in a row, he can manage tonight. Not to be mean, understand he is 18, he took off after school and did not call or text before showing up and telling me he was hungry. Part of my healthier living is to make changes in all parts of my life that are better for me. That means my kids are going to feel some of those changes.
Hope I feel the energy to maybe go for a long walk tomorrow, the weather is better (we had 2 days of rain) so I should be able to go out walking if I want to.

Day 7 - Dec 14 2011
Day 7 - Still doing good on food and water, not as hungry at night though I have fought some cravings. Probably does not help that my daughter made chocolate chip cookies, but this is life I have to learn to pass on things sometimes.
Did a bunch of shopping including (thanks to 30% off at Kohl's) buying some new yoga pants. I love them, they are super comfy, and they stretch and shrink so I can wear them comfortably while losing weight. I am not buying any jeans until I am close to goal weight.
I did not work out, but I think every other day will be best still this week, I am not sore like I was on Sunday which is good but I am easing myself into it. I know I will be "Biggest Losering" it with double workouts in a couple of weeks.
Bought food for me and the kids, well my son. He is happy with some frozen fish prepared different ways that can be heated up in the oven and then served with rice or potatoes. That makes life easy for me. My girl, well she doesn't eat fish, or red meat and does not want anything that involves work...so she is eating salad or making her own food right now. She is certainly old enough.
Baked my chicken for the next few days, will portion it out tomorrow, it really helps having it all ready to grab and go in the fridge. I also have some really good turkey burgers that are great to cook up and split for meals. Add some fresh mushrooms that I will probably saute with seasonings and just a teeny bit of olive oil and I will have tasty food for most of the week.
Only downside is that I did pass on treat night with my parents. We have developed the habit in the last year of going to Culver's an ice cream place on Tuesday nights after their dance class. But yesterday I passed, I could have simply gone and watched them eat but thought that would not be a good idea. Plus I was tired from working out and just wanted to chill. I think I will try to convince them to come here after dancing, we have treats for my dad and food if they need it.

Day 6 - Dec 13 2011
Day 6 - Things are going pretty well, I am actually getting enough sleep that I don't feel like napping all day long. Having more energy helps in so many ways. In addition, I have not had heartburn at all for the last 5 days. Amazing what cutting out the greasy, salty, fatty foods does for my health.
Made a few different foods to help spice things up. The kids are really starting to believe that I am going to do it this time, although I suppose they will really believe in another few weeks. Bought them some food that is easy to make and a wider variety for them so they won't feel deprived while I am eating healthy.
Going to put in my walking DVD and walk while I watch #TheBiggestLoser finale. I have done this successfully in the past where I put in a nice walking DVD without the sound and do it while watching TV. Totally alleviates the boredom I have have with working out.

Day 5 - wow, it is going fast, I think I have kept the count straight.
Official weigh in day, always on Mondays for me, always first thing in the morning. I did lose 8lbs since going back on plan, that is good. I know it is mostly water weight but it is always a good boost to have a good first week.
Eating and water are good, it has been raining here and I did not sleep well, nothing to do with healthy eating, everything to do with a neighbor car alarms going off in the middle of the night. I am a very, very light sleeper.
I am trying to gear myself up for an evening workout, maybe just bring a DVD in my room and workout without the dogs or kids tonight. My legs are definitely sore from Saturday, but that is good!

Day 4 - Dec 11 2011
Day 4 - Food was fine, water fine, did not exercise today. I did not sleep well thanks to some inconsiderate neighbors so I did not have the energy to walk. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
Tomorrow I weigh in for my first official Monday weigh in, with the water weight loss, I should be good to go.

Day 3 - Dec 10 2011
Day 3 - Felt a lot better today, even without a lot of sleep. I think the headache medicine kept me awake during the night. I hope to sleep better tonight.
Keeping up with my food and water, again, not a problem. I was super hungry last night around midnight, I know it is my body adjusting to the new eating habits. But it was tough for a while, I think this contributed to my lack of sleep.
Felt good enough today that I took a 30 minute walk on my treadmill. Now I hate treadmills, they are just so boring. And mine faces out a window with a wonderful view of the cinder block wall. I can't move it to where I can see a TV and I can't read while walking. So I am just making myself keep going while listening to my iPod. It is just I get very bored very quickly, it seems a waste of time to be just walking.
Anyway, lesson of the day, dancing while on my treadmill may not be the smartest idea. I was swinging my arms to "Bad Day" by REM and got my arm caught on part of my son's weight machine (which is right next to the treadmill), wrenched my shoulder and almost fell off! After I stopped laughing at myself I decided all arm swinging must be done in a forward motion from now on!
Honestly, I feel pretty good. Got a full 30 minutes in on the treadmill, I know I need 50-60 but I have to work my way up to that. In a couple of days when I add in my DVD workouts it will be better.

Day 3.5 - I did do one of my DVDs tonight. I like the Walk Away the Pounds when I am getting started. I find they have the perfect amount of cardio to get me a good workout. Poor dogs, they were so confused, first they stood right in front of my then they lay down on the floor like an audience. So helpful!
The kids both managed to be in the room to watch me, pet peeve of mine is people watching me. I try to do my workouts when they are at school or out or sleeping.Oh well!

Day 2 - Dec 9 2011
Day 2 - I am only halfway through the day but I am feeling a lot better. Already feel more awake than usual. Drinking water is never a problem and I am making sure to get in all that I need to help flush out what junk is left in my body. I am tempted to get on the treadmill today, but we will see.
I usually get a severe migraine between day 2 and day 3, I believe it is caused by the change in my blood pressure from not having large amounts of sodium in my diet. I usually wait for that to pass before I start exercising.
Because I prepare all my own food, I don't typically get bored with it. I am doing well with what I cooked on Monday, so I should be able to get through the week.
I feel a lot more resolve this time as well, I have started and stopped several times in the last 18 months. But this time I feel different, I really feel I may have gotten to the moment where I come first and I just do it. The fact that no family is coming to visit for the Holidays is partially a blessing, I won't have that added stress or need to cook oodles of food that is not healthy for me.
Of course, my kids are already getting set to complain, they can eat anything and never gain an ounce. It is hard to cook food for them and food for me separately, I can not eat their food and they don't want to eat mine. Of course they are more than old enough to fend for themselves, I think that is the battle plan.

I feel a lot more resolve this time as well, I have started and stopped several times in the last 18 months. But this time I feel different, I really feel I may have gotten to the moment where I come first and I just do it. The fact that no family is coming to visit for the Holidays is partially a blessing, I won't have that added stress or need to cook oodles of food that is not healthy for me.
Of course, my kids are already getting set to complain, they can eat anything and never gain an ounce. It is hard to cook food for them and food for me separately, I can not eat their food and they don't want to eat mine. Of course they are more than old enough to fend for themselves, I think that is the battle plan.

Day 1 of healthy eating done. I am concentrating on living healthy, but I have at least 75lbs to lose, I don't think I can lose the 80 to get to my lowest adult weight. That was 10 years ago now and I just don't know if I can maintain it.
I am always surprised that working from home makes all of this so difficult. The structure of working in an office as well as access to only what I brought with me really kept me on track.
I am going to let my body adjust to the healthy living, and then I will add walking and exercise.#BobHarper is one of my favorites to workout with, so I look forward to doing his yoga workout as well as boot camp.
